New Brunswick, NJ – The Menendez for Senate Campaign today announced that the SEIU New Jersey State Council has endorsed Bob Menendez for reelection to the U.S. Senate. SEIU New Jersey State Council is comprised of unions representing more than 23,000 private and public sector workers in critical service industries statewide.
“I have spent my entire career in public service fighting to make sure everyone has an equal shot at the American Dream, for the rights of workers, to expand the middle class, grow our economy, increase access to affordable health care, and lower the cost of education so students aren’t crushed under a mountain of debt,” said Sen. Menendez. “Greedy drug company CEO Bob Hugin and Donald Trump consistently put the interests of big corporations ahead of the average, hardworking American, and they support Supreme Court nominees who will erode worker protections. The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher, and I’m grateful to have the support of the SEIU New Jersey Council and the thousands of hardworking New Jerseyans they represent in that fight.”
“Senator Menendez has been an unwavering ally of Labor. He understands and works to advance an agenda that benefits working families in New Jersey—one that makes a priority of affordable, quality healthcare and decent wages and working conditions,” said Wilfredo Larancuent, president of the SEIU New Jersey State Council. “We need his voice in the Senate, especially now. There is too much at stake.”
Bob Menendez has a distinguished record fighting for hardworking families, and the rights of workers to organize. He believes that anyone who works hard deserves fair pay and livable wage, has voted to increase the minimum wage, has resisted Trump Administration efforts to roll back workplace safety standards, supports updating the Equal Pay Act, and is fighting for paid family, sick, and medical leave. The Senator also spoke out against the recent Janus Supreme Court decisions that undermined unions.
