Hugin Still Has Kavanaugh’s Back Despite New Allegations of Sexual Assault

Menendez for Senate and Ryan Alexander · September 24, 2018

New Brunswick, NJ – The Menendez for Senate Campaign released the following statement after the emergence of new allegations of sexual assault against Trump Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh:

“The new allegations of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh reveal a troubling pattern of behavior that only further disqualifies him from a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land.  Yet, Bob Hugin says he hasn’t heard anything that would prevent him from supporting his confirmation,” said Menendez for Senate Communications Director Steve Sandberg.  “Bob Hugin is spineless and gutless and incapable of mustering a mere fraction of the courage these women have displayed coming forward to stand up to Donald Trump.  He supports a president who has admitted to sexually assaulting women and a Supreme Court nominee who’s been credibly accused of sexual assault and, if appointed, would undermine women’s rights and overturn Roe v. Wade.  Bob Hugin will never stand and fight for women.  He will never have New Jersey’s back and he must never be sent to the United States Senate.”

Bob Menendez voted against Kavanaugh’s nomination to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2006 and has said he would vote ‘No’ on his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.  The Senator has publically called for delaying a confirmation vote until Kavanaugh receives a thorough vetting, and criticized the current process and Senate Republicans for trying to push the nominee through without making his complete record available nor fully investigating the allegations against him.
