New Brunswick, N.J. – The Menendez for Senate campaign today announced that the National Organization for Women (NOW), the largest organization of feminist grassroots activists in the country, has endorsed Bob Menendez for re-election to the U.S. Senate. NOW has hundreds of chapters throughout the country and takes action to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination and achieve and protect the equal rights of women and girls in all aspects.
“In a political climate where women’s rights are on the chopping block, I am so proud to team up with the National Organization for Women. Women’s rights are human rights, and it is critical that New Jersey has a senator willing to fight for them,” said Bob Menendez. “Throughout my life, I have stood up for women and supported legislation to expand women’s rights, protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, combat postpartum depression, address sexual violence on college campuses and support victims of domestic violence. And I am proud of my 100% rating from Planned Parenthood. My opponent, greedy, drug company CEO Bob Hugin, spent his life discriminating against women and supporting candidates and causes that have advocated rolling back women’s rights to a time long gone. The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher, and together, with NOW’s support, we will fight for women and the values we share.”
“Because of Sen. Menendez’s dedication to feminist issues, the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee has endorsed his candidacy for the New Jersey election,” said NOW Political Director Linda Berg. “We look forward to working with Sen. Menendez to achieve full equality for women and girls.”
Bob Menendez has been a champion for women’s rights. He voted for the equal pay law, passed the Violence Against Women Act and is the prime sponsor of the Equal Rights Amendment. He cosponsored the CAMPUS SAVE Act, which addressed issues of sexual violence on college campuses and has actively fought against the Trump Administration’s rollback of campus sexual assault protections for survivors. Sen. Menendez fought to include the MOTHERS Act to combat postpartum depression as part of the Affordable Care Act, and voted against Trump’s SCOTUS picks who would threaten to overturn Roe v. Wade. Sen. Menendez is proud of his 100% rating with Planned Parenthood, which provides women with safe, affordable healthcare options.
